Drying hair seems to be a real challenge. It is well known that a hot hairdryer is not particularly pleasant for your hair. But alternative methods such as the tried and tested towel or air drying do not seem to be ideal either. Voluminous, shiny hair seems to be only possible with expensive styling devices, if at all.
A few products and tricks are all you need to make your hair look professionally styled. In this article, you'll learn what you should consider for a beautiful finish after blow-drying.
HOW DO I BLOW DRY MY HAIR CORRECTLY?
To untangle your hair, you can first try using a wide-toothed comb. Since your hair is exposed to high heat when styling, you should make sure to apply heat protection before blow-drying. This will largely protect your hair from damage. Since the outer cuticle layer of the hair is softened when wet, it can crack when the water evaporates when blow-drying. Heat protection nourishes your hair and moisturizes it. It forms a protective layer around your hair and protects it from split ends and breakage.
When it comes to hair dryers, we recommend a hair dryer with ion technology and several temperature settings for more precise temperature adjustment. The hair dryer should be held at a sufficient distance from the hair to prevent hair damage. A distance of at least 15 centimeters from the hair is recommended.
For thick hair, it is recommended to blow-dry the hair in sections. You can give your hair volume by parting deeply and blow-drying it straight in the direction of growth using a brush. Blow-drying the hair in the direction of growth ensures a smoother, shinier end result. If the air flow runs against the natural direction of growth, the hair becomes roughened. If you blow-dry along the direction of growth, the upper cuticle layer is closed and ensures a beautiful shine.
If your hair is thin, it's best to use mousse or volume spray after washing. Apply the product to the roots and leave out the lengths. This way you won't weigh them down unnecessarily. If you blow-dry thin hair against the direction of growth, you'll create additional volume.
If you have curly hair, you should use a special curling gel or mousse before blow-drying and then blow-dry your hair with the diffuser attachment. This will give your curls the optimal bounce.
WHICH IS BETTER, BLOW DRYING OR AIR DRYING?
The hairdryer is a real miracle weapon and dries dripping wet hair in minutes. But for the sake of hair health, many people rely on letting their hair air dry. Otherwise, they risk heat damage and hair breakage. According to dermatologists from Korea, the assumption that blow-drying is more harmful than air-drying seems to be just a persistent misconception. A comparison of the various hair-drying methods showed that air-drying hair is prone to split ends. Damp hair swells easily. This in turn leads to pressure on the cuticle. Damp hair also has less strength than dry hair. Your hair breaks more easily. So, if used correctly, the hairdryer can be gentler than air-drying.
IS DRYING WITH A TOWEL GENTLER?
Many people also rub their hair with a soft terry towel and then wrap it in the towel. This method is also not particularly gentle on your hair and its structure. Hair is very sensitive and even if the towel is fluffy for you, it is too rough for your hair. Rubbing your hair dry with a towel can mess up your natural hair structure, causing split ends, frizz and breakage. A gentle alternative can be to gently dab and wring it out with a microfiber towel or a cotton shirt, but this method does not create as much volume as blow-drying.
SHOULD I GO TO SLEEP WITH WET HAIR OR BLOW DRY IT BEFORE BED?
When wet, the surface of your hair is roughened and therefore very sensitive. If your head moves during the night and your hair rubs against the pillow, your hair can quickly become split, frizzy and brittle.
Thick hair is less prone to becoming brittle or frizzy than fine hair.
However, you can be on the safe side if you blow-dry your hair before going to bed. Dry hair has a smooth surface and is therefore not as easily damaged as wet hair. You can also prevent hair breakage and frizz by sleeping on a pillow with a satin cover.
HOW DO I BLOW DRY MY HAIR FOR VOLUMINITY?
To blow-dry your hair for volume, you will need a hairdryer, a round brush and medium-sized hair clips.
First, wring out your hair and dry it carefully with a microfiber towel or cotton shirt. Then work heat protection into your hair. Avoid the roots, as they tend to get greasy and shiny. Then, using a tail comb or your fingers, separate a lower section of hair from the rest of your hair. Draw a line around your head from your temples. Choose the section as thin as possible. This allows you to work more precisely and ensures a particularly voluminous result. Pin the upper sections of hair upwards with a bobby pin.
Divide the lower section into two or three parts again. Take a section of the separated lower section of hair and place the round brush at the hairline. Slowly comb the section upwards while holding the hairdryer on the section. Repeat this process until the section is completely dry. Do the same for the other separated sections. Once you have blow-dried the lower section of hair, move on to the next section of hair. Work your way up to the top layer of hair.
When you reach the top layer of hair, first use your comb to create a parting. Now divide your top layer of hair into several strands and proceed as you would with the rest of your hair.
If you have bangs, these are styled last. The bangs are brushed downwards, unlike the rest of the hair.
You can then fix everything with hairspray.
HOW DO I BLOW DRY MY HAIR STRAIGHT?
While straightening your hair with a flat iron will wear it out quickly, blow-drying it is gentler on your hair. This will make your hair silky smooth without looking flat.
This look is also easiest to achieve with a round brush. Very long hair should be styled with a round brush with the largest possible diameter. You will also need hair clips and a hairdryer with an attachment.
After washing, wring out your hair briefly and dab it with a cotton shirt or microfiber towel.
First, prepare your hair with a sufficient amount of heat protection.
Now set the hairdryer to the hottest setting.
HOW DO I BLOW DRY MY HAIR WAVY?
First, work heat protection into your damp hair. Then work mousse into your hair.
Then take a hairdryer with a diffuser attachment. Divide your hair into individual sections. You don't have to work as carefully and in small steps as you would when blow-drying straight or volumizing your hair. It's best to work with hot air. Now place the individual sections one by one on the diffuser attachment and move the hairdryer towards your scalp. Hold it in this position for a while and then repeat the step until the section is dry. Work your way through the individual sections in this way.
