As a regular hairdresser, you rarely get around having your eyebrows dyed. This not only evens out significant color differences, but also allows you to skilfully hide small hairless areas in the eyebrow.
HOW DOES EYEBROW COLORING WORK?
In principle, the process for changing the color of your eyebrows is the same as for dyeing your hair: a color is mixed with an oxidizing agent (developer) and applied to the fine hairs, where the substance is then allowed to take effect for a few minutes. The chemical process of the effect is also almost identical. One small detail that differentiates the two processes is that the developer for eyelash and eyebrow color is much less aggressive; and the color itself is as well.
Small applicators that look like pipettes are helpful when applying the product. Alternatively, many beauticians or hairdressers also work with a very thin brush. Damp cotton pads are used to remove the color mixture.
THE PRODUCTS - WHY HAIR COLOURS ARE NOT SUITABLE FOR EYEBROW COLORING
Special dyes are generally used for dyeing eyebrows and eyelashes. Compared to classic hair dye, these are less concentrated and some ingredients are not present at all. For eyebrows and eyelashes, which are naturally finer than your head hair, dyes that are too strong could cause the hair to break off.
Although hair dye can be used as an alternative in an emergency, the oxidizing agent intended for hair dye must not be used. This would damage your sensitive facial skin and could cause serious health problems if it gets into your eyes when dyeing your eyelashes. You should also dilute the dye with water. If you want to change the color of your eyelashes or eyebrows, it is better to stick to the appropriate products and avoid any deviation.
Natural products such as henna are worth considering, as they are purely plant-based powders that work when mixed with water. However, remember that boiling water is required to mix them, so let the mixture cool down a little before applying it.
WHAT YOU SHOULD PAY ATTENTION TO WHEN COLORING YOUR EYEBROWS
It is important that the color-developer mixture is not made too runny. If it is too runny, the substance can start to run and make its way into the eye. To avoid this, you can apply a cream (such as Nivea) directly under the eyebrow as an additional aid.
You should also not leave the product in for less time. Depending on your original hair color, you risk a glassy and transparent end result that will wash out quickly. If your natural color is particularly light, it is also advisable to trace the contour of your eyebrow beforehand, for example with kohl. This way you can avoid asymmetrical coloring and pluck out any outside hairs before you accidentally color them.
The ideal eyebrow shape is known as the "golden ratio" and should ultimately be recognizable together with the color. The eyebrow begins on the inside of the eye, goes two thirds upwards and outwards and then one third downwards and outwards. In addition, the eyebrow becomes narrower from the inside to the outside. Whether the contour should be more rounded or angular ultimately depends on your own face shape: Round faces and those with a pointed chin harmonize particularly well with precisely defined lines. Faces with a more square shape should have rounded eyebrow contours.
